The state of Alabama has a total of 61 colleges, universities and technical colleges. The most notable are The University of Alabama located in Tuscaloosa, which has an enrollment of over 30,000 students. Auburn University has over 25,000 students. The University of Alabama, UAB and The University of South Alabama in Mobile have medical schools as well.
Eleven universities in the state have excellent nursing programs. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) offers one of the best nursing programs in the nation and is in the national top 5% of all nursing schools. The nursing school offers several advanced degrees including Master’s, Doctoral, and the state’s only PhD in Nursing and Doctors of Nursing Practice. The on campus UAB Hospital is a 1,046 patient bed hospital that also serves as a teaching facility for Nursing and Medical school students.
